Moose Totem

The moose is a symbol of pride, life, and strength. In nature, the Moose despite its large size, is able to move around quickly and almost silently. It is a solitary creature that moves with grace and confidence. People with the moose totem have an instinctive sense of balance. They know when to use kindness and strength. Moose people are also wise beyond their years. The moose teaches us how to honor ourselves and reward ourselves when we have worked hard.

Personal Reflection...

Those who carry Moose as a totem are called upon to bridge seeming oppositions in their life. Moose is both akward and graceful, strange and yet awe inspiring. Moose people are called upon to embrace their individualism, to show courage in being their authentic selves, but to do so with grace and gentleness. People with a Moose totem are often called upon to seek truth and guidance within themselves.

Dream Symbolism

Dreaming of a moose in the wild is a sign of a beneficial change coming. If you harm it, then it is a sign of unresolved family problems. A baby moose is said to be an omen of forthcoming good luck.

THE MOOSE

The moose is one of the most ancient and unique of the power totems. The adult male can stand 7 feet tall and weigh 1200 pounds. Male moose bellow loudly during mating and can be heard over 6 miles away. When they hear a moose cow answer they run to her prepared to battle anything in their path. The moose is courageous and determined and will make its presence known when it chooses to.

On the other hand, the moose has an uncanny ability to camouflage itself, in spite of its great size and power. It can move silently through its territory and never be seen. These contradictions help it survive in the wild. It holds the teachings of invisibility and the power of presence. Shapeshifing abilities are tied to mythology and incorporate the teachings of shamanism and magic. For those with this totem the refinement of these skills is enhanced through these studies.

When you see a moose in the wild the energy it embodies is awesome. The massive antlers that crown its head grow larger then any other antlered animal. Ancient myth refers to these antlers as "The Crown of Courage." These antennae are linked to the crown chakra in man. As the antlers grow the crown chakra opens and expands giving those with this medicine a direct channel to universal knowledge.

Contradicting and majestic the moose can appear awkward as well as graceful. Its highly developed sense of smell and hearing is complimented by its excellent depth perception. Its appearance of ungainliness is misleading and deceptive and it is this deception, which enables it to survive so well.

Moose calves are born with their eyes open. Individuals who carry this medicine are born with their inner eyes already open and can see things with exceptional clarity. Psychic awakenings later in life are uncommon. The moment of birth is the moment of awakening for moose medicine people. The most difficult lessons in life are during their childhood. Their courage coupled with their direct connection to universal knowledge gives them the tools necessary to strengthen their self esteem and discover their place in society. A powerful totem to have moose will uncover the depth of who you are and align you with your inherent wisdom.

THE MOOSE

Consider the poor moose. Long gangly legs supporting an awkward, oversized body topped by a rack of antlers that looks like it will topple him over. What a poor sight. Well, Mrs. Moose doesn't think so, and none of the animals of the forest who know moose think so either.

Moose medicine teaches us the value of self-esteem, and of rewarding ourselves and others for a job well done. Moose walks with a measured and regal gait with his head held high for he knows he has value and dignity.

Moose people do not hesitate to encourage others to learn and grow for they are not threatened with the thought that someone might get to be better at a thing; the student surpassing the teacher as it were. Moose will not only encourage others to learn, he will jump in and help teach, and will show by example. Moose people will never ask others to do what they will not do themselves.

Moose knows how damaging unkind criticism and nitpicking is to the spirit of someone trying to learn and do their best. Moose will look for any excuse to tell the world about something that has been done well, and he sings it forth for all to hear. People work hard to please moose because the rewards of his pleasure are great.

Moose does not suffer from false shyness or inhibitions or the tendency to make light of his own accomplishments. He is not coy about his successes. Moose says, "I worked hard to do this, and I did it well. I'm proud of myself". When you acknowledge that your own acceptance of a thing well done, and satisfying your own standards, really is important to you, you are on the road to building a bedrock of solid self-esteem. Remember that "self" esteem comes from the inside out -- not from outside sources.

If you do it well, admit it and enjoy it. Praise from others is good, but praise for yourself is more important. If someone else does something well, praise them. Be as generous with your praise as you are your criticisms. Bring joy into the world -- and shout about it.

MOOSE:

Magic of life and death, sacred energy is opened, camouflage self, conceal ideas/thoughts/actions until the appropriate time, life is awakening and moose will acknowledge the truths that are needed by your spirit. Aids in moving emotions for awareness, teaches strength, wisdom and patience. Moose gives you the ability to move swiftly but silently with wisdom. Are you being gentle with yourself? Do you need to more graceful and humble or speak up more? Moose will show you balance along with how strength can be found in gentleness and how to deal with situations.
