The marsupials are known for their ability to carry their young in a pouch on their bellies. Perhaps the best-known is the kangaroo. Marsupials are very different from many other mammals because their young are born incompletely developed and must finish growing in their mother's pouch. The marsupials are one of the oldest orders of animals. They shared the earth with the dinosaurs! They are usually omnivores - meaning that they eat most anything, however some do specialize in certain types of food.
Most marsupials live in Australia and islands around Australia, like Tasmania. The opossum, however, lives in North, Central and South America.
