Bobcat's Message and Medicine

Silence / Keeper of Ancient Secrets / Keen Senses / Independence

Bobcat is a member of the feline family and gets its name from its short bobbed tail. It is a medium sized cat and can weigh up to 40 lbs. Bobcat has prominent ear tufts and ruffs on the sides of its head. His coat is brownish-yellow, with dark spots and black stripes. Bobcat is shy, solitary and rarely seen . It likes rough terrain and makes its home under rock ledges. His coloring helps him blend into his surroundings. Bobcat is an expert at climbing trees and he likes to hide in bushy areas. Its keen eyesight, sensitive whiskers and acute hearing make it a powerful night predator. Bobcat’s ability to sneak up on its prey unnoticed, makes it very successful at catching birds, rodents and rabbits.

Bobcat’s message can help you understand psychic knowledge and ancient mysteries. Its medicine is the ability to help you move beyond time and space. If you have Bobcat as a totem you have excellent counseling skills. Others will confide in you but you must keep their confidences a secret. Do not, " let the cat out of the bag" or you will experience repercussions almost immediately. Be careful of what you say and how you say it. Sharing information received in confidence can lead to problems. Remember, "silence is golden". Be aware of things hidden but trust in your intuition to reveal them. Don’t forget to spend some time alone and away from the telephone. Take a class in psychic development and counseling . Your clairvoyant powers are strong and should be put to good use.

BOBCAT:

Bobcat teaches fear-less-ness through patience and solitariness.

Bobcat is a patient hunter who will go days without eating. When prey is abundant, Bobcat will fill up.

Bobcat is a solitary creature and offers the lesson of standing on your own, leaving a community that doesn’t support you, or standing your own ground within the community.

Bobcat symbolizes intelligence and ferocity. Use these gifts to relentlessly pursue what you most want in life.

As a crepuscular animal, Bobcat explores and hunts during sunset (for a few hours in the evening) and sunrise (for a few hours leading up to sunrise). These are the transitional periods of the day—when Bobcat thrives. If you are going through a transition, use Bobcat medicine to help you move through the transition with courage and grace. The greatest gifts often come from transition.

Bobcat also teaches to migrate to environments that suit you. Unlike Lynx, Bobcat is not well suited to hunt in the snow. The snow is not a challenge for Bobcat to overcome; it is a sign that it’s time to move on. To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven. Bobcat teaches timing and seasonality, recognizing that danger is real.

Thirteen Bobcat subspecies are currently recognized. They resembles other species of Lynx, but are the smallest of the four. Its coat is generally tan to grayish-brown, with black streaks on body dark bars on forelegs tail. Its spotted patterning acts as camouflage. There is an off-white color on lips, chin, underparts. Bobcats in desert regions have lightest-colored coats, while those in northern, forested regions are darkest. Kittens are born well-furred already have their spots.
