2014 ~ Year of the Wood Horse

Horse is one of Chinese favorite animals. Horse provides people quick transportation before automobiles, so people can quickly reach their destinations. Horse even can help people to win the battle. Therefore Horse is a symbol of traveling, competition and victory. That's why Horse is connected to speedy success in China.

Horses like to compete with others. They pursuit for their freedom, passion and leadership. That implies that people will have busy schedule for their goals in the year of Horse. Horse hour of Chinese Horoscopes is from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. Sunshine generates lots of heat during the Horse hour. Therefore, horse is connected to heat, fire and red. Horses like the social activities, because horses like show off themselves. Since horse is a social animal and red is also connected to love, therefore. horse is treated as a Romantic Star in Chinese Horoscope.

Dragon and Horse are auspicious symbols to Chinese. Chinese said that the best flyer is the sky is Dragon and the best runner on the ground is Horse. Dragon and Horse are the symbols of high-rank, outstanding, noble and leadership. Chinese history book said Horse has 30 percents of Dragon personality. More than 8-foot tall Horse is called Dragon-Horse. There was a Dragon-Horse jumped out of the Yellow River almost 5000 years ago. Fu Xi saw that Dragon-Horse had a diagram on its horseback, which inspired him to invent the I-Ching Pre-Heaven Pa- Kua. Chinese civilization began to take off since that. Chinese sometimes encourage people using the Spirit of the Dragon-Horse. Dragon-Horse Spirit doesn't mean only a person with full energy as the Dragon-Horse, but also, a person pushing himself to transcend his potential to hold the leadership.

Every Chinese dynasty, Chinese look for sturdy and beautiful stallions. The stallion must be tall and be able to outrun other horses. If the stallion can run one-thousand-Chinese-mile (about 312 miles) a day, then it called one-thousand-Chinese-mile Horse, which means winged steed. One-thousand-Chinese-mile Horses can help the emperors to conquer the nation. Also, a winged steed can save the master's life by running away swiftly, if the master cannot fight with the enemy. Today, when a person is called one-thousand-Chinese-mile Horse, that means the person is a hard-to-find, outstanding, experienced elite and knows how to run the business.

One of famous one-thousand-Chinese-mile Horses in China is called Sweat-Blood Horse. They said the sweat of Sweat-Blood Horse is red, when it runs in high speed for a while. According to the study, Sweat-Blood Horse was a Turkmenistan horse breed. One Chinese emperor sent more than 50 thousand soldiers to Turkmenistan to bring back a thousand of Sweat-Blood Horses. But only half of horses arrived China alive.

Genghis Khan built the Mongol Empire by horses. The Mongol Horses were a smaller breed, they were bred for endurance, not for speed like stallions. Genghis Khan conquered Eastern Europe so quickly. Because Eastern European countries never realized Mongol cavalry can arrive their territories so fast and they didn't have enough time to prepare the defense. They said each Mongol cavalryman had three or four horses. They will change another horse when one got tired. So Mongolian horses can take turn and get some rest. Mongol cavalryman even knew how to sleep in the saddle. That's why they can travel long distances without stopping. We know horses can sleep while standing. Mongolian horses have a better sleeping skill. When they ran in a group, the horse in the center can sleep while running.

Horse is intelligent animal. Horses need to be trained to become useful to human. Human can make Horse famous. Without human's guide, Horse just a wild animal. It doesn't know where to go. There is no destination in its life.

2014 Horoscope for the Year of the Green Wood Horse

http://www.gotohoroscope.com/2014-horoscope/chinese-new-year.html

The period from January 31st, 2014 to February 18th, 2015 will be spent by mankind in the pursuit of their dreams. The coming 12 months is the time of the Pegasus, not a village nag, so if you do not want to drag heavily laden carts then grow your wings and fly high. The horoscope promises that you will not be bored, because every day will be stuffed with events and surprises. If you perceive any deviation from the original plan as a personal tragedy, you will have a difficult time in the Year of the Horse. Learn how to adjust to the outside world, happily meeting any changes, because cooperation is better than confrontation. The long-mane patroness of 2014 will help the kind of peoplewho know how to take initiative and play by the rules. To earn the respect of the universe, we need to be strong, hardworking and self-reliant. Life’s benefits go to those who can reach them first, ahead of the crowd of competitors. However, it you have the intention to thin out the ranks of opponents through unfair methods, creating traps and poisoning teas, then you will be disqualified for the entire 12 months. The Horse cannot stand scoundrels and the envious ones, and every time tries to hit them with its hoof. Due to the heightened decency of the year’s mistress, all signs should forget about low blows and focus on self-development. Additional education, vocational training and valuable experience will enhance your credibility in the eyes of others, and help you take the coveted leader’s office. The fact that on the way to the top you will not step over other people or shove them into an abyss will greatly improve your karma, and who knows – perhaps you can later reincarnate into a beloved hamster of a business tycoon. From a financial standpoint, 2014 will be a successful year for the people who are used to working hard, very hard in fact, instead of sitting still and waiting for manna from heaven. Those slackers, who in their hope of heavenly life obediently tread the desert trusting in the mercy of God, will receive not mercy, but charity from Destiny. Even among the red-hot sands you must show business acumen and find a source of income, whether it be an oil well or a network of water selling outlets.

Many people will meet their other half in the Year of the Horse, but some will miss the godsend happiness from their own passivity and indecision. Remember that even a handsome prince must fight for his love: fighting the evil dragon, building flying ships. The only princess who knocked on the door of her boyfriend’s castle turned out to be capricious, nonsensical, and brought many complaints about a small pea under the duvet in the morning. If you do not want to wake up every day with a grumpy hysterical woman, then actively search for someone who would be worth living your life with. In 2014, people should openly express their feelings and emotions, leaving the old man syndrome in the past. If you will shield yourself from the outside world, then it will answer you the same, resulting in the only happy birthday greeting you get coming from the automatic Gmail service.

A horse is a freedom-loving animal created for running through the wilderness and the wind, surrounded by its own kind. However, while flying through life, do not forget those who make up your herd: friends, colleagues and relatives. Invite them to celebrate the New Year together; your cheerful and friendly company is bound to attract long-mane patroness, who will come to the light and endow everyone present. Despite the apparently democratic nature, theGreen Horse is still a born aristocrat, so people need to abide by the dress code during the festive celebration in her honor. Prefer clothes with elements of blue or green colors, these can be combined with brown and gray. Women should not neglect their large jewelry, designed in the same main colors, and men should dignify their costume with cufflinks or tie pins of relevant stone shades. Dressing up as bright as an orange, a tropical bird, a plum or a firefighter is not necessary. Leave these aggressive colors for something else; otherwise, the 2014 Horse will turn to you with the place where she grows her tail.

Even if you prefer to wear worn-out sneakers all year round, then go against this rule at New Year's Eve and sacrifice comfort for the sake of beauty (especially since the need to run away from the ball did not arise from the times of Cinderella). To please the long-mane mistress of the year, put on shoes with heels or soar above the ground on a high platform. Scattered loosely over the shoulders or flirty hair tail will help you charm the highest forces and to enlist their support for the next 12 months.

It is known that the Horse is an herbivore creature, so the hosts of the world will have to decorate the holiday table a variety of salads and vegetable platter. It is clear that the patroness will not approve of any horse sausages or roast beef, so the horoscope advises people to be satisfied with fish dishes or poultry. Prepare a loaf of bread for the Horse and various pies, cakes, and cookies for yourself. All filling and flour products are now held in high esteem. At New Year’s Eve, remember that your goal is not to eat yourself up to a fat state and not to drink until your face drops in the salad, but to have good fun, dance, and laugh at the neighing of last year setbacks. All while you prepare to be among the favourites of the race of life in the upcoming 2014!

Have you ever seen an albino turtle?

A rare albino turtle swims in a tank at the Sea Turtle Reserve Centre in Kosgoda, Sri Lanka. The centre collects turtle eggs from the beaches for hatching before poachers remove them as they are considered a delicacy. Once hatched the small turtles are let free in the sea.

Albinos often struggle to survive in the wild, as their lack of pigment makes them an easy target for predators.

Sea Turtles Project

The sea turtles project is one of the turtle hatcheries located along the southern coast, this hatchery is located 3 Km south of the Bentota bridge. These turtle hatcheries were constructed to rescue and protect turtle eggs because of the rapidly declining numbers of marine turtle in Sri Lankan shores.

Marine turtle eggs are purchased from the fisherman and re-buried along the beach and left there for 48 days allowing the eggs ample time to hatch. Thereafter the baby turtles are collected from the beach and kept in tanks for 2-3 days, and released into the ocean to fend off for themselves. The few female turtles that survive will return to their natal shores after ten years to lay their own eggs.

Visitors to the hatchery could release baby turtles into the ocean at night; they could also take a glimpse at the two very rare albino turtles that are kept at the sea turtle project for research. This one of a kind sea turtle conservation project is a site that should not be missed when one visits Bentota.
Source

Here he is! He was captured in a fisherman's net and if he had not been an albino would have been eaten. But he was brought to the folks at Kosgoda. He lives in his own holding pond. He has been there for many years. When the tsunami hit, the director ran out to the pond, grabbed him, and ran to safety. There are two of them at Kosgoda.

“[Their] unusually high intelligence as compared to other animals means that dolphin should be seen as ‘non-human persons’ and as such should have their own specific rights and is morally unacceptable to keep them captive for entertainment purpose.”

Freedom and Jeff

Freedom and I have been together 11 years this summer. She came in as a baby in 1998 with two broken wings. Her left wing doesn't open all the way even after surgery; it was broken in 4 places. She's my baby.

When Freedom came in she could not stand and both wings were broken. She was emaciated and covered in lice. We made the decision to give her a chance at life, so I took her to the vet's office. From then on, I was always around her. We had her in a huge dog carrier with the top off, and it was loaded up with shredded newspaper for her to lie in. I used to sit and talk to her, urging her to live, to fight; and she would lay there looking at me with those big brown eyes. We also had to tube feed her for weeks.

This went on for 4-6 weeks, and by then she still couldn't stand. It got to the point where the decision was made to euthanize her if she couldn't stand in a week. You know you don't want to cross that line between torture and rehab, and it looked like death was winning. She was going to be put down that Friday, and I was supposed to come in on that Thursday afternoon. I didn't want to go to the center that Thursday, because I couldn't bear the thought of her being euthanized; but I went anyway, and when I walked in everyone was grinning from ear to ear. I went immediately back to her cage; and there she was, standing on her own, a big beautiful eagle. She was ready to live. I was just about in tears by then. That was a very good day.

We knew she could never fly, so the director asked me to glove train her. I got her used to the glove, and then to jesses, and we started doing education programs for schools in western Washington. We wound up in the newspapers, radio (believe it or not) and some TV. Miracle Pets even did a show about us.

In the spring of 2000, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. I had stage 3, which is not good (one major organ plus everywhere), so I wound up doing 8 months of chemo. Lost the hair - the whole bit. I missed a lot of work. When I felt good enough, I would go to Sarvey and take Freedom out for walks. Freedom would also come to me in my dreams and help me fight the cancer. This happened time and time again.

Fast forward to November 2000 the day after Thanksgiving; I went in for my last checkup. I was told that if the cancer was not all gone after 8 rounds of chemo, then my last option was a stem cell transplant. Anyway, they did the tests and I had to come back Monday for the results. I went in Monday, and I was told that all the cancer was gone.

So the first thing I did was get up to Survey and take the big girl out for a walk. It was misty and cold. I went to her flight and jessed her up, and we went out front to the top of the hill. I hadn't said a word to Freedom, but somehow she knew. She looked at me and wrapped both her wings around me to where I could feel them pressing in on my back (I was engulfed in eagle wings), and she touched my nose with her beak and stared into my eyes, and we just stood there like that for I don't know how long. That was a magic moment. We have been soul mates ever since she came in. This is a very special bird.

On a side note: I have had people who were sick come up to us when we are out, and Freedom has some kind of hold on them. I once had a guy who was terminal come up to us and I let him hold her. His knees just about buckled and he swore he could feel her power course through his body. I have so many stories like that...

I never forget the honor I have of being so close to such a magnificent spirit as Freedom.

Hope you enjoyed this!

Cancer is a strange cell. You can go along for years in remission and then one day it pops is head up again. If you ever have it you will never be free of it.

A SMALL REQUEST...

...just one line. All you are asked to do is keep this circulating, even if it's only to one more person. In memory of anyone you know who has been struck down by cancer or is still living with it or just someone who enjoys a *GREAT STORY*!

Turanian Berkutchys (''Eagle Men/Women'')tag:totemtalk.ning.com,2013-02-22:5521792:Topic:203092013-02-22T02:21:23.154ZTerri Benninghttps://totemtalk.ning.com/profile/TerriBenning

Throughout Siberia (Northern Asia) and Central Asia the Eagle is looked at as a totemic ancestor...It is also believed that the first Shaman received his sacred knowledge from the Eagle. This is why Eagles are sacred for the Berkutchys (Eagle Man) Or Kushbegi (Lord of the Birds) These Berkutchys are unfortunately known as "Eagle Hunters" in the western world, but this is not just just hunting, Berkutchy is a life's profession, it is a passion actually..."We train them because of a beauty of flight not because we want them to hunt for us."

This tradition is believed to have originated 6000 years ago, and was later adopted by other countries. 13th century records indicate that both Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan owned thousands of hunting birds. An eagle-'master' is called a Berkutchy. It is a life-long profession, and in Kazakhstan is often a hereditary one. The art of wild bird training was developed over millenia, the secrets imparted from father to son. The relationship of the bird and its caretaker is constant and all-consuming. In the training of a young eagle, the Berkutchy must sacrifice his sleep for a long period. For weeks, the growing bird is rendered sightless under its hood until its dependence on its "master" becomes complete. Such intimacy must turn into a lifelong trust with the eagle - twenty years or more. It is said that as the man trains the eagle, so does the eagle train his man. The Berkutchys set the Eagles free, when they are 7 or 8 so the Eagles can breed again. This way, the Berkutchys always make sure that the Eagles do not become extinct. There is a proverb in Kazakhstan: "There are three things a real man should have: a fast horse, a hound, and a golden eagle...''
